Every year, Telangana Formation Day on June 2nd is celebrated grandly across the state. It is an official holiday for students, but other organizations mark the occasion by hoisting the flag at their offices. Our team gathered at the Earth Head office for the celebration, which was attended by our Executive Director, Senior Coordinators, PETs, and some volunteers. Following the flag hoisting, the Executive Director spoke about the struggles and efforts involved in establishing Telangana as a separate state. The other attendees also shared their experiences and discussed steps toward the state’s development.
The International Day of Yoga, celebrated annually on June 21st since 2014, highlights the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life for mental and physical health. In our Foundation’s observance, which involves teaching yoga in adopted schools, our team members visited each school to conduct yoga events. Each event featured a chief guest, along with our team, PETs, volunteers, and students. The chief guests discussed the benefits of yoga and provided valuable insights. Students enthusiastically performed different asanas with the chief guests, doing it as a performance in some schools. This approach was implemented across all our adopted schools for the celebration.
This month, we observe World Day Against Child Labour on June 12th, a day dedicated to raising awareness about child labor, which often results from poor financial conditions forcing children into work. This shift from education to labor can stunt their future potential and innovations. To address this, we emphasized the importance of education to our students and conducted a drawing competition on the topic. We discussed methods to prevent child labor, such as encouraging enrollment in government schools that provide free meals and clothing. We also highlighted organizations like Childline 1098 that can help address and resolve such situations, ultimately protecting children from exploitation.
Badibaata, a significant initiative by the Telangana government, was renamed Prof Jayashankar Badibata this year in honor of Professor Jayashankar Garu. Conducted from June 6 to June 11, the program aims to enroll school-age children, identify dropouts, and address students advancing to higher grades. Despite progress, many rural villages still lack awareness about the importance of education, which drives the need for this program. As part of the initiative, teachers from government schools visited homes to gather information on children. Our team also participated, uncovering challenges faced by parents and children. This allowed us to develop an action plan to ensure students attend school regularly and benefit from the support offered by the government and the Earth Foundation.
Celebrating World Environment Day is crucial to address environmental issues caused by our harmful practices, such as deforestation, excessive vehicle use, river pollution, and plastic waste. These problems contribute to natural disasters and broader ecological damage. To raise awareness and promote action against pollution, the Earth Foundation, in collaboration with the Siddipet Education Department, Nehru Yuva Kendra, and the National Green Corps, organized a large rally and flash mob dance performance at the Siddipet District Center. The event featured notable attendees, including the Siddipet Municipal Chairman, Education Department SO Bhaskar, NYC Coordinator, Earth Foundation Director Vennela, Senior Coordinators Anjaneyulu and Niharika, and PETs Prashanth and others. The goal was to inspire change, starting with at least one individual, as every positive action begins with a single effort.
A new committee, the Amma Adarsh Committee, has been introduced by the government and is headed by V.O.A. The Earth Foundation held an introductory program at their Siddipet office to familiarize the committee members with their services aimed at strengthening rural government schools. During the event, the Earth Foundation team introduced themselves and explained their work. The meeting also emphasized the need for the committee’s ongoing support to help the foundation achieve its goals for students.
The expansion of school adoption each year signifies the Foundation’s progress, thanks to the contributions of many dedicated individuals. This year, we extended our adoption efforts to Hanamkonda District in Telangana, in addition to our existing schools in Siddipet. Our team identified schools with significant student populations in Hanamkonda and visited each one to present our services. These include bag distribution, customized handwriting worksheets, exercise books, yoga, and dance. The school management, parents, and various committees were enthusiastic about and appreciative of the services offered by the Foundation.
Each year, the Sports Authority of Telangana announces admissions for 4th class students at three sports schools in the state: Hakimpet, Karimnagar, and Adilabad, with each school offering 40 seats (20 for boys and 20 for girls). These schools provide excellent education while balancing academics and sports, making them a great opportunity for students passionate about sports. The best performers from our adopted schools were selected to compete, showcasing their skills in the competition. These students, who receive daily training through the PETs provided by the Earth Foundation, performed exceptionally well.
The pictures show preschool celebrations in adopted villages in Maharashtra similar to Telangana’s Badibaata but with some differences. During these celebrations, school teachers create impressive crafts and art for students to wear, making them feel joyful. The students receive a grand welcome and participate in a village rally to raise awareness about the school’s reopening.
Shiv Swarajya Day, celebrated on June 6, marks the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Hindu Swarajya in Maharashtra. Each year, this day is observed with the hoisting of the saffron Swarajya flag, alongside the singing of the national and Maharashtra anthems. It is a special and joyful occasion for Maharashtrians, who celebrate it with great enthusiasm.
